Like forest ecosystems, we believe that the scientific and academic community is healthier, more productive, and sustainable when there is diversity. Our lab values diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive, equitable, accessible, and welcoming environment. We are committed to:
  • Educating ourselves about anti-racism, racial justice, and systemic discrimination against marginalized communities,
  • Listening to and uplifting voices from these communities,
  • Embracing the discomfort as we engage in difficult conversations and constructive dialogue,
  • Speaking out and pushing for change when we see microaggressions or institutional policies that disadvantage these communities,
  • Making space and time for trainees to heal, take care of their communities, or fight for justice,
  • Donating or contributing to organizations that promote success and well-being of marginalized communities in STEM,
  • Creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all,
  • Recruiting more individuals into natural resources from historically excluded identities.
